WINE OF THE WEEK- AGUA de PIEDRA Malbec 2010    $12.99

  • This has tons of flavor with dark plum, black cherry, black licorice and hints of spicy oak. Although the wine has incredible richness, it is remarkably silky at the same time.
  • The nickname of the vineyard is ‘Agua de Piedra’ because the soils are so stony (piedra means stone) that the grower wonders how the vines find the water (agua)! This struggle actually gives the wine its intense concentration.
  • Serve this yummy Argentine red with grilled meats, pasta, stews, pizza, sausages, cheese and crackers and more!

 

 

MARKET UPDATE

Greetings, I hope this finds you well and getting ready for another dusting of snow (maybe).

 

FRESH PRODUCE-

  • WE HAVE LETTUCE!-We received 10 boxes of Blue Sky Organic Lettuce this morning; hopefully we are back on track to have this regularly again.

 

COMING ATTRACTIONS-

  • FRESH HAND STRETCHED MOZZARELA CHEESE- Cody will be out front making and hand-stretching her Fresh Mozzarella cheese from noon until 2pm tomorrow (Saturday).
  • FRESH MAINE SARDINES-We are expecting a small quantity of Sardines tomorrow morning. They have amazingly fresh of late.
  • NANTUCKET BAY SCALLOPS-We should have one gallon available tomorrow

 

FROM THE SEAFOOD MARKETS-

  • PUMPKIN SWORDFISH-We received a spectacular “Pumpkin” fish from Florida today! These fish are known as pumpkins due to their bright orange flesh color. This is caused by an abundance of shellfish in their diet (shrimp, squid and other crustaceans). The beta-carotene in the shells gives the meat an orange hue, much like flamingos turning pink after eating shrimp. The crustacean rich diet gives the meat a richer more buttery flavor than “regular swordfish”.
  • CHESAPEAKE BAY ROCKFISH-Caught this morning and only at River Falls! Our good friend Captain Tom was fishing at first light and just dropped off his catch!
  • FRESH DOVER SOLE-Just flown in from the North Sea

FROM THE KITCHEN-

  • PERUVIAN MARINATED ROASTED CHICKENS-due out hot at 3:30pm
  • BAKED PENNE with SAUSAGE & MUSHROOM
  • SPAGHETTI with BEEF MEATBALLS
  • CORN & CRAB BISQUE
  • POTATO LEEK SOUP
